Building the Foundations
Before joining Plan B, Shelby was completing a hairdressing apprenticeship. While she enjoyed the industry, she found herself increasingly drawn to the organisational side of the business – coordinating appointments, managing administration and keeping everything running smoothly.
When an opportunity became available in Reception at Plan B, she saw it as the perfect chance to build a career around those strengths.
That decision would become the first step in a journey that continues to evolve today.
Learning the Business from the Ground Up
Joining the business as Receptionist, Shelby quickly became one of the first points of contact for clients, contractors and staff.
The role provided a broad understanding of how the business operates while developing the communication, organisational and administrative skills that continue to underpin her success.
“Reception gave me a solid foundation and understanding of what we do at Plan B. Just as importantly, I experienced a culture that is supportive, welcoming and genuinely encourages people to learn and grow.”
After three years, Shelby was ready for a new challenge.
Recognising her eagerness to learn and develop, she was offered the opportunity to join the Auditing team as a Project Administrator, opening the door to the more technical side of the business.
“It gave me insight into the processes, attention to detail and coordination required behind the scenes to deliver successful outcomes.”
Over the following years, Shelby became one of the team’s most trusted resources, taking on increasingly complex responsibilities while supporting both colleagues and clients.
Quality Through Experience
Ask Shelby what she enjoys most about her work and the answer isn’t about promotions or titles.
It’s about seeing projects successfully delivered from beginning to end.
“I love issuing passed audit reports, reviewing completed audits once non-conformances have been rectified, and seeing all the hard work from both our field and office teams contribute to a successful outcome.”
That attention to detail has made Quality Assurance a natural progression.
As Quality Assurance & Administration Supervisor, Shelby now leads the Auditing Administration team while continuing to oversee audit scheduling, quality assurance and the ongoing improvement of systems and processes that support successful project delivery.
One aspect of the role she is particularly passionate about is helping others develop.
“Helping my team expand their knowledge, skills and confidence has been one of the things I’m most proud of.”
For Shelby, quality isn’t simply about reviewing the finished product.
It’s about building strong systems, supporting people and delivering consistent outcomes for clients.
“Quality assurance and administration go hand in hand. Together they help ensure projects are delivered accurately, consistently and within required timeframes.”
Looking Ahead
As Shelby steps into her new role, her focus remains firmly on growth – both her own and that of the team around her.
Over the next 12 months, she is focused on continuing to strengthen the Auditing Administration team, building capability across all aspects of auditing and creating opportunities for others to grow their confidence and technical knowledge.
She is also looking forward to expanding her own experience through greater client engagement and industry networking.
Her advice for anyone starting their journey at Plan B is simple.
“Take every opportunity you can, challenge yourself and be open to learning new things.”
Reflecting on her journey, Shelby says she’s grateful for the opportunities she’s been given.
“I love working at Plan B, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities, experiences and support I have received throughout my journey. I look forward to continuing to grow alongside the business.”
