People of Plan B: Cameron Watts, General Manager – Plan B Auditing

Welcoming Cameron Watts – A New Perspective, Backed by Broad Experience

From client to General Manager, Cameron Watts brings broad commercial, operational and people leadership experience to the next chapter of Plan B Auditing.

Cameron Watts may be new to the Plan B team, but he certainly isn’t new to Plan B.

Having previously worked with us as a client, Cam had already experienced our people, capability and approach from the other side of the relationship.

That gave him a unique perspective coming into the business – and, importantly, meant he knew the kind of organisation he was joining.

Now, as General Manager – Plan B Auditing, Cam brings a broad mix of commercial, operational and people leadership experience to the next chapter of the business.

What had always stood out to him was Plan B’s practical, relationship-focused approach: taking the time to understand how a client’s business operates and providing advice that can genuinely be used, rather than simply completing the task in front of us.

It’s an approach that has plenty of parallels with Cam’s own career – and, as it turns out, with the way he leads.

A Career Built from Different Perspectives

Cam brings a broad mix of people, operational, commercial and customer experience to Plan B.

Perhaps surprisingly, his career began in Human Resources, where he developed a grounding in workforce planning, industrial relations, safety, policy and organisational change.

From there, he moved into operational leadership, including responsibility for complex 24-hour manufacturing environments supplying Australian and international markets.

Over the years, his career expanded across sales, customer experience, business development and general management. He has led multi-state teams, held responsibility for major business portfolios, developed new services and entered new markets – all while maintaining a strong focus on customer relationships and operational delivery.

It’s an unusual mix of experience, but one Cam sees as a genuine strength.

Human Resources gave him his people foundations. Operations taught him discipline and the importance of execution. Customer and commercial roles taught him to look at a business through the client’s eyes. Leadership brought those perspectives together.

That breadth of experience will be particularly valuable within Plan B Auditing, where the technical outcome is only one part of the equation.

For Cam, the real value of an audit comes from helping a client understand risk and providing practical information they can act on.

Listen First, Then Build

Despite bringing significant experience to the business, Cam isn’t arriving at Plan B with a predetermined list of changes.

His first priority is to listen.

He wants to spend time with the Auditing team and broader business, understand our clients and services in detail, and develop a clear picture of what’s working well, where challenges sit and where the team sees opportunity.

It’s about understanding what already makes the business successful, hearing from the people who know it best and then working together on what comes next.

And Cam sees plenty of potential.

There are opportunities to deepen the support provided to existing clients, expand capability into other utilities and markets, and continue developing complementary services around the work Plan B already does well.

His ambition is for Plan B Auditing to continue strengthening its market position while pursuing growth that is sustainable and aligned with our expertise, values and ability to deliver.

The Future of Auditing

Technology will inevitably form part of that future.

Cam expects technology and AI to increasingly influence how audits are planned, undertaken and reported – particularly as clients expect information to become more timely, useful and actionable.

But technology doesn’t replace the fundamentals.

Technical rigour, understanding the client’s operation and communicating findings in a way that supports practical action will remain at the heart of good auditing.

It’s about using better tools to improve outcomes, without losing the expertise, judgement and relationships behind them.

Leadership, the Plan B Way

When Cam talks about leadership, three words come up quickly:

Clarity. Trust. Accountability.

People should understand what’s expected of them, why their work matters and how their contribution connects to the bigger picture.

But Cam is equally clear that good leadership isn’t simply about setting expectations. It means being visible, approachable and willing to listen to the people actually doing the work.

It’s an approach that aligns naturally with The Plan B Way.

Being People Focused means creating opportunities for people to develop, contribute and take genuine ownership of their work.

Respect means recognising the expertise around you and being prepared to listen to different perspectives.

And being Honest & Open means creating an environment where issues can be discussed, ideas can be challenged and feedback can be given constructively.

Cam also believes strongly in development – through regular feedback, coaching, knowledge sharing and giving people opportunities to take on new challenges.

He wants people to feel supported, but equally empowered and accountable for the outcomes they own.

Collaborative Leadership Without Losing Accountability

That same balance carries through to how Cam makes decisions.

He doesn’t believe leadership means walking into the room with every answer.

Instead, he wants the right questions asked, the relevant expertise heard and people given the opportunity to contribute their experience and ideas.

But once those perspectives have been heard and the facts understood, leadership also means providing clarity – making the call when one needs to be made and following through on the commitments that come from it.

It’s collaborative leadership without losing accountability, and a mindset that fits comfortably within a business built around people working United as One.

The team can expect Cam to be transparent, consistent and straightforward, with respect and honesty underpinning the way he works.

Ultimately, though, he sums up his leadership philosophy pretty simply:

“I’m team focused, and I want to lead team success.”

Getting to Know Cam

For someone whose career has covered everything from HR and manufacturing to utilities and business leadership, Cam’s preferred way of switching off is considerably simpler: two wheels.

Motorbikes and mountain biking are his thing, alongside spending time with family and friends – and maintaining some balance away from the demands of business leadership.

Welcome to Plan B, Cam

With broad experience, an existing understanding of Plan B from the client side and a leadership approach that already feels very at home within The Plan B Way, Cam brings plenty to the next chapter of Plan B Auditing.

His combination of commercial perspective, operational discipline and people-focused leadership will help us continue strengthening our client relationships, developing our team and identifying the right opportunities for sustainable growth.

We’re excited to have him officially on our side of the table. Welcome to Plan B, Cam.
